Maggie couldn't sleep. She turned over onto her back and sighed. Tomorrow she was being released and allowed to go home. Darien was asleep in a chair next to her bed his long legs sprawled out. Pushing back the blankets, she slipped off the bed and padded out of the lab barefoot.
The halls of the agency were empty, the lights low. The night guard nodded to her as she passed the security station into the lobby. The windows were streaked with water from the rain. Touching the cool glass, she looked out into the deserted street. Sighing, she turned around and headed back down the hallway. A light coming from lab 3 caught her eye and she crept toward the door.
The observation room door was open and Maggie stepped inside. She found Hobbes staring at the woman inside the padded room, a small backpack by his side.
"Bobby?"
He turned and saw her then, smiling sadly. "Hi kitten." She stepped up to the window next to him and he put an arm around her shoulders.
Dr. Johnson was asleep inside, looking more innocent than she should. The look on Maggie's face was one of pure hatred. She pressed a hand against the glass and made a small noise that sounded like a growl.
Hobbes leaned close to her ear. "Wanna get revenge?" He asked her in a low voice.
She turned to face him and he patted the small bag. "Bobby?"
"She messed with my partner, my girl." He shrugged as if that said it all.
"Actually, I think Maggie's my girl but in this case I think I can share." Darien was in the doorway, leaning against the wall. "What'd you have in mind Hobbes?"
"Just a taste of her own medicine." He opened the bag and pulled out a long box. Inside was a syringe of chartreuse liquid. "We found this in Dr. Johnson's cooler. Don't know what it does but I think we should find out." There was a distinctly un-Bobby like glint in his eye.
Maggie was staring at the syringe. She looked back through the window at Dr. Johnson. Her tongue darted out and licked her lips before she nodded. "Yeah."
"Wanna do it?" Hobbes offered her the syringe.
She shook her head. "Darien should take it in. I've got a plan. Just follow my lead." Maggie walked down the short hallway to the cell door. The guard looked at her, a questioning look on his face. "The Keeper said it would be alright for me to talk to Dr. Johnson. Claire thinks she might tell me something."
He hesitated for a moment before letting her inside. Maggie held back to let Darien in. To the guard, she appeared afraid, uncertain. He gave her a reassuring smile before she stepped inside.
"If you need me, just yell. I'm right on the other side."
"Thanks." She said to him before the door slid shut. Dr. Johnson was still sleeping and Maggie gave her a forceful kick. She started awake and struggled to sit up.
"Hello Kit. I think I can call you Kit now. We've really moved past the keeper/kept relationship." Maggie crouched on the raised bed, watching the woman.
"What do you want?" She scooted away from Maggie.
"What do you think I want? I want you to feel what you did to me. And I want to know who you work for." Maggie's voice was low and dangerous. She looked at her toes for a moment. "We found something very interesting in the cooler in your lab. Do you want to know what it was?" She asked cheerfully. Dr. Johnson was shaking her head, trying to back further away.
The syringe appeared seemingly from nowhere, floating next to Dr. Johnson. She let out a small scream and backed up to the wall. Maggie watched her, never moving from her spot.
"It was this pretty colored liquid. All ready in a syringe. I wonder what it does?" She looked at Dr. Johnson wide-eyed. "I think we should find out."
"Don't. No, don't." Dr. Johnson shook her head as the syringe came closer.
"What's wrong? You don't want me to inject this into you? What is this? More PCP? Some other kind of poison?" Maggie demanded. Dr. Johnson didn't speak, her gaze fixed on the needle. Disgusted, Maggie shook her head. "Do it."
The needle plunged into Dr. Johnson's neck and the bright green liquid was pumped into her body. Dr. Johnson screamed and tried to lunge for Maggie but she had no balance and ended up on her face. Maggie jumped up and backed toward the door.
"Let me out!" She yelled and the door flew open. Hobbes pulled her out of the room. Darien was right behind her, shedding Quicksilver as the door swung shut. Maggie kept running past the guard to the observation room.
"Maggie!" The guys followed her. She was standing at the window watching the woman inside raving.
"I hope they lock her up like Hannibal Lecter." She whispered. "Put her in the supermax wing of the Agency nut house."
Darien and Hobbes exchanged a glance over her head. Darien pulled her away from the window. "We can let the Official know tomorrow morning. Claire'll have my head if she finds out you were out of bed."
Maggie looked up at him. "I don't ever want her to see the sun again." He nodded and steered her out of the lab.
"She won't, Princess. We'll make sure of it."
